Hello, I'm Defne

She was born in 2004. She completed her undergraduate studies in the Department of Ceramics at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Akdeniz University. Artistic production takes shape at the intersection of aesthetic theories and conceptual debates in contemporary art. In particular, it reevaluates concepts such as perfection, ideal beauty, and symmetry—which have become firmly established in art history—from a critical perspective.

It approaches ceramics not as a technical field of production, but as an independent art form with its own unique expressive possibilities. In this context, ceramics becomes a vehicle for both intellectual and aesthetic explorations. The material’s malleable nature, its affinity for organic forms, and its susceptibility to change through physical processes serve as an interface for making her conceptual explorations of nature visible.

The asymmetry, formal diversity, and rhythmic irregularity that occur naturally in the natural world form the fundamental references of his aesthetic approach. It interprets phenomena such as formation, decay, and restructuring—observed in natural processes—by relating them to the material memory of ceramics.

In the practice of production, formal and conceptual elements drawn from nature are redefined on a new aesthetic plane through the sculptor’s intervention. Thus, ceramics becomes not merely the shaping of an object, but the artistic expression of a multilayered interaction between material, nature, and the creative process. This approach contributes to current discussions regarding the place of ceramics within contemporary art.
